Easter in the Thames Valley: What’s On

So, the Easter holidays are upon us and though the weather is damp our spirits aren’t. The Thames Valley always comes up trumps when it comes to celebrating the holidays and there are plenty of activities being run by all your favourite venues.

In this feature, we’ve selected ten of the best family events going on in the Thames Valley this Easter. From craft fairs and egg hunts to Family fun days and Circuses, there’s bound to be something for everyone.

Newbury Garden Show

Saturday 13th April  2019 and Sunday 14th April 2019

Newbury Showground, Priors Court, Hermitage, RG18 9QZ

An exciting weekend to start with at the Newbury Showground with the annual spring garden show. As well as plenty of plants, flowers and fruit/veg on display there is also a packed programme of entertainment, workshops and stalls. For the green-fingered, there are some talks planned and for those that aren’t you can keep yourself busy in the huge food tents. It’s a great day out for the kids, especially the dog show and the horse stunts spectacular!

Windsor Spring Food Home and Craft Fair

10.00am to 2.00pm

Saturday 13th April  2019 and Sunday 14th April 2019

Royal Windsor Racecourse, Maidenhead Road, Windsor, Windsor, Berkshire, SL4 5EZ

To be held on the lawns of Royal Windsor Racecourse in marquees, the Spring Food Home and Craft Fair looks set to be a treasure trove of demos, stalls and exhibitions. Don’t forget your money as there will be plenty of shopping opportunities from arts and crafts, gifts and food to a fully catered bar. Expect some familiar faces as former contestants from BBC’s Masterchef and Channel 4’s Great British Bake-Off flex their culinary muscles. Oh, and there will also be a smallholding display plus birds of prey.

Tickets are £6 with children under 14 going free.

Day Out With Thomas

Times and date vary

Buckinghamshire Railway Centre, Station Rd, Quainton, Aylesbury HP22 4BY

Always popular with the children, the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre is once again offering short train rides with Thomas the Tank Engine. As well as other activities on site including kids shows, badge making and meet the Fat Controller, the venue also has a great visitor centre with full sized vintage steam engines. In keeping with the Easter theme there is also an egg hunt.

ArtiSpring Fair

10.00am to 3.00pm

14th April 2019

Norden Farm, Altwood Rd, Maidenhead SL6 4PF

An artisan craft market featuring the talents and skills of traditional makers and handcrafting aficionados, the ArtiSpring Fair is a great shopping event. From glassware and candles to jewellery, homewares and artwork, there is plenty to browse and you can even see products being made.

Free to enter, Norden Farm also has a great programme of kids’ craft days over the Easter holidays.

Breakfast with the Easter Bunny

All Easter Holidays (Times Vary)

Wyevale Garden Centre, Heathlands Rd, Wokingham RG40 3AS

Wyevale Garden Centres are running a nationwide Easter programme in which you can book a meal at the restaurant and meet the Easter bunny. Prices vary depending on whether you have a hot or cold tea and vary for adults and children. Costs include a chocolate treat and Easter trail plus a free toy from the bunny himself. Oh, and the kids also get to decorate an egg.

The local Heathlands centre will be taking bookings throughout the holidays with details of availability on their website.

Animal Antics

10.30am to 4.00pm

River and Rowing Boat Museum, Mill Meadows, Henley-on-Thames RG9 1BF

The Henley River and Rowing Boat Museum has a lot of fun activities over Easter including some discounted boat rides but it is their Animal Antics day which looks the pick of their programme. Mill Cottage Farm will be bringing along plenty of animals for children to pet to complement the venue’s animal themed craft day. It’s a lovely setting by the river and Henley has plenty to offer the grown ups afterwards.

Grenfell Easter Family Fun Day

11.00am to 3.00pm

Saturday 20th April 2019

Grenfell Park, 48 Grenfell Rd, Maidenhead SL6 1HG

Aimed at children between the ages of 0-12, the Maidenhead Rotary Club has once again organised an Easter Fun Day. A local community event that is open to all, there will be plenty of fairground rides, stalls, games and activities as well as a Easter egg treasure hunt. Free to attend, there are usually around 200 people at these days.

Easter Quiz Trail

2.00pm to 4.00pm

Saturday 20th April 2019

Caversham Court Gardens, Church Rd, Reading RG4 7AD

A free event for children to take part in, the treasure hunt takes place in the lovely grounds of Caversham Court and offer all participants a prize for being involved. The refreshment kiosk wil be open and donations are welcome.

Cadbury Easter Egg Hunts

All Easter Holidays (Times Vary)

Various Venues across the Thames Valley

The National Trust and Cadbury have once again teamed up to entice young people and their parents to venture outdoors for the Easter period and set about exploring the fabulous grounds of some fabulous places. From woodlands to spring gardens, these nature trial inspired Easter egg hunts are a great way to spend a day with family. The closest places running these events to us are at Maidenhead and Cookham Common, Greys Court in Reading and Cliveden. Check the website for full details.

Wellington Country Park Easter Circus Spectacular

Shows at 11.00am, 1.30pm and 3.30pm

19th 22nd April 2019

Wellington Country Park, Odiham Rd, Riseley, Reading RG7 1SP

Wellington Country Park presents a big-top extravaganza over the Easter weekend that will feature the skills of Circus Wellingtonia. It’s a Big Top event that will certainly sell out quickly so book now to avoid disappointment. They are also running an Easter egg hunt and family craft day on 21st April.
